
You eat junk, your body becomes junk! Sounds harsh right? Yet it is true. The food you give your body to produce new cells will either build healthy cells or weak and dying cells!. Our cells are in a constant cycle of death and rebuilding. Would you build a new house with old, rotting materials? You would not, so why provide your body with poor-quality materials to build new cells? We try to maintain live cells with dead materials like manufactured food and medications. The result? All kinds of diseases, aches and pains are fed more medications to ease symptoms! A vicious cycle! Take a look at the amount of time it takes to replace cells in different organs of the body.

Hippocrates said that food should be our medicine and medicine should be our food. The problem is that what we regard as food is not really food. Most items found in the supermarket are manufactured and contain ingredients that cannot be pronounced. Added to that, many of the fruits, vegetables, and seeds are genetically modified. Even some fruits are marketed as organic! No studies have been done to determine the effects of genetically modified organisms on the human body. Meats are filled with hormones because animals need to grow quickly! Fish is filled with mercury, which is devastating to many of the body’s processes.
The first term in the acronym, NEW START, is nutrition. I have kept this for last because it is so extensive and the most important. Humans are one of the few species that eat the foods they are not designed to eat. For example, a stray cat kept visiting my house, so I thought to feed it. I gave it some of my vegan food, it smelled it but did not eat it, and now I am buying it cat food! You will not find the lion eating grass and conversely, you will not find the cow eating meat. Humans have found a way to eat almost anything!
So, what were we designed to eat? Scripture indicates that man was made to eat the fruit of the ground; fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and seeds. Many researchers and doctors are now suggesting that these are the foods that should be eaten for maximum health. There is such a wide variety of colorful, healthy, live foods just waiting to be enjoyed, yet we crave unhealthy junk which creates havoc on our health!

An apple a day keeps the doctor away is not just a cliche, it is packed with amino acids, the building block for proteins, along with fatty acids, enzymes, vitamins; A, C, E, K, B6, Beta Carotene, Niacin, Folate, Pantothenic Acid, Choline, and minerals; Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Sodium. Consider the list of amino acids found in an apple below and compare it with a donut.

A donut will only provide glucose, water, fat ( most times margarine, which is a manufactured product) carbohydrates, and additional toxins. Which is better for the living cells of the body? All fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, have the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins that we need in the correct proportions and the necessary fiber for digestion. You are indeed what you choose to eat. Choose well for health’s sake!
