Mung Bean Sprouts

Sprouts, as I indicated in the previous blog, are powerhouses of nutrients. Sprouts are more nutritious than the mature plant. Mung beans is one of my favorites. Make sure to buy the organic beans. Take a look at the nutritional value of mung bean sprouts compared to the bean.

There are many health benefits to be obtained from consuming mung beans/sprouts. They fight fevers, chest cold and infections/infectious diseases like chicken pox, mumps, boils and skin diseases. Mung beans are also excellent for painful urination, kidney and bladder inflammation, gastrointestinal ulcers and diabetes. It also helps to correct high blood pressure and cholesterol, balance the metabolism and assist in strengthening the eyesight.

Because mung beans sprout is high in vitamin B3, it assists in the metabolism and utilization of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It helps in the promotion of a healthy skin and tongue and digestive system. Vitamin B3 is also essential for the body’s production of cortisone, thyroxine, insulin and other hormones. It is also necessary for a healthy nervous system and brain function.

Mung bean sprout is packed with vitamin B2, which is needed for cell respiration and is necessary for the formation of red blood cells and antibodies. B2 also helps in stressful situations. Potassium, which is also abundant in mung bean sprouts, is essential for muscle building, water control and neutralizing acids. Potassium is also necessary for the normal health of the adrenal glands, for keeping the heart rhythms normal and increase blood and tissue alkalinity.

Mung beans sprouts are quite easy to make.

  • Purchase high quality organic, non- GMO beans
  • Place 1 cup beans in a sprouting jar with 3 times as much water as beans
  • allow to soak for 8 hours
  • Drain water from jar and rinse with fresh lukewarm water
  • Place in a warm dark place
  • Repeat rinsing and draining process twice per day
  • Make sure to drain thoroughly
  • Beans should be ready within 3 – 4 days
  • Use in salads.

Mung beans are known for their strong detoxifying effects on the body, particularly to cleanse the heart and vascular system. A rice and mung bean fast will purge toxins and pathogens from the body. This is an easy and cheap way to getting the nutrients you need, detoxifying the body and keeping healthy. Just do it!
